To Decorate or Not to Decorate! Selling Your House or Condominium during the Holiday Season

With the Mississauga, Meadowvale, Erin Mills Real Estate market up in value more than 10% than at the same time last year, many home sellers are considering listing their home in December to take advantage of the hot real estate market, when traditionally most people put off listing their home for sale.

If you do decide to list your home for sale in December you have to ask yourself whether or not to decorate for Christmas as usual? There is balance between enjoying the holidays but also showing your house or condominium in its best potential light- key to getting top dollar for the sale of your home. If you are considering selling your home over the holidays, I recommend consulting with an experienced home stager to ensure your home shows it best.

If you do decide to decorate for the holiday season, keep these tips in mind.

If your holiday tradition includes a tree, consider buying a smaller one as a large one can hide some of your home's selling features.

Try to keep religious decorations to a minimum, and instead opt for seasonal secular decorations.

Pair down on the amount of decorations you normally use, it will help curb clutter.

Try putting your decorations up later in the year and taking them down earlier. Since you're planning to move you'll have to pack them up anyway!
