Port Credit Village Information

The History of Port Credit
Situated at the mouth of the Credit River in south central Mississauga, Port Credit is Mississauga's oldest community having served many roles over the years including trading post, fishing port and industrial centre. After the paving of the Lakeshore highway in the early 20th century, Port Credit became attractive to business, and travelers wanting to escape Toronto in the summer months. |
Port Credit remained an independant town until it was amalgamated with the city of Mississauga in 1974. Its claim to fame is the Port Credit harbour at the mouth of the Credit River, that has the largest boating marina in the area. Port Credit has great community spirit, hosting many events for locals and tourists such as historic walking tours of the village, community celebrations and cultural events. |
